  • Layton police say a 17-year old drove blindfolded while doing the ‘Bird Box’ challenge. It didn’t end well

No injuries were reported.

According to KUTV and the Layton police department, she soon veered into the other lane and hit another vehicle, a light pole and a sound wall.

Layton Police spokesman Lt. Travis Lyman told CBS News that a 17-year-old girl was driving with a 16-year-old passenger at the time of the crash.

The streamer previously issued a warning against participating in the "Bird Box Challenge", which involves performing often unsafe stunts while blindfolded.

The department shared two photos on Twitter - the gray truck the 17-year-old girl was driving while blindfolded, and the white SUV she hit.

Lt. Travis Lyman told Fox13 that the 17-year-old female driver of the pickup truck was driving on the Layton Parkway with a 16-year-old male passenger when she made a decision to take part in the challenge and blind herself using a beanie.

The challenge has seen people being filmed doing a variety of every day things blindfolded, including walking into walls and down streets.

"I nearly feel silly saying this", said Layton Police Lieutenant Travis Lyman. Police are recommending charges of reckless driving. "The stakes are just so high and it's just such a potentially risky thing as it is: to try and do it in that way is inexcusable".

For its part, Netflix has pleaded with people to be safe and avoid hurting themselves with the Bird Box Challenge. "It really puts everybody at risk".

The challenge prompted Netflix to issue a warning tweet on January 2.

No one was injured in Monday's crash but authorities didn't discover the reason of the accident until Friday.
