  • R. Kelly Under Investigation in Georgia Following New Documentary's Abuse Allegations: Report

The Blast broke the story, the Fulton County District Attorney began investigating Kelly after the multitude of allegations made in the Lifetime docu-series, "Surviving R. Kelly".

Foxx said she has been "in contact with" people who have information related to claims in Cook County.

"We can not do anything related to these allegations without the cooperation of these victims", Foxx said. Accusers and witnesses would have to speak out, and even then, prosecutors could have a hard time winning a conviction.

While R Kelly often avoids discussing his relationship with Aaliyah, he previously told GQ that he "absolutely [did] not" do anything wrong in that situation. It alleged that the singer was holding women against their will and running a "sex cult".

The allegations extend beyond IL. Investigators have made contact with the family of Asante McGee and the attorney for the family of Jocelyn Savage, two of the women who were profiled in the film.

In the police report Joycelyn's father, Timothy Savage, received text messages from Russell saying it would "be best for him and his family if the documentary [Surviving R. Kelly] does not air".

Despite the accusations that span decades, the star singer, songwriter and producer who rose from poverty on Chicago's South Side has retained a sizable following. Kelly won three Grammys that year for "I Believe I Can Fly", a song that would be sung at churches and graduations across the U.S.

Lady Gaga has been a vocal supporter of victims of sexual assault. His collaborators have included Jay-Z and Usher.

A Cook County jury acquitted Kelly of all 14 counts of child pornography in 2008. In early 2002, at the height of the controversy around the sex tape that purported to show him having sex with an underage girl, he released a song attacking his detractors called 'Heaven I Need a Hug, ' and previous year, amid claims that he had brainwashed young women and was holding them in an abusive 'sex cult, ' he released a similar 19-minute song called 'I Admit It'. He has denied that allegation. "Once he told me that I was at a loss for words". Apparently, the person likely responsible for administering the threat is a known business of R. Kelly named Donnel Russell. "It was something that, to me, was just like ... not to say 'unforgivable, ' but I couldn't understand it". "I'm exploring my gift right now".

'Number one, there was a girl that was trying to talk about it and couldn't. "I should stress the courage that it takes to relive and repeatedly re-experience by telling your story of sexual victimization, but we rely heavily on victim accounts and victim statements to prosecute cases involving sexual assault or domestic violence", Foxx said. In fact, the Savages said they haven't spoken to 23-year-old Joycelyn in two years. The parents are claiming R. Kelly has brainwashed them. Some women said they had to escape or be rescued. After airing Thursday through Saturday, the documentary grabbed not only the attention of the media, but also law enforcement. Kelly was charged months later. Some were tied to Kelly's Chicago area home.

"But witnesses will have to come forth", Mehlman-Orozco said.
