  • MLB Free Agent Rumors: David Robertson Signs 2-Year Contract With Phillies

Britton's deal includes both a club option and a potential player opt-out, according to sources.

The Yankees lost right-handed reliever David Robertson to the Phillies in free agency recently so Ottavino would fit in nicely to his role in the later innings for NY.

"Philly really checked off all the boxes for me", Robertson told MLB.com. Robertson faced the Phillies in the 2009 World Series with the Yankees, throwing 2 1/2 scoreless innings with two strikeouts over as many appearances. "They've put together a great squad and I think I can bring a lot to the team in the back end of their bullpen". He appeared in 69 games, going 8-3 with five saves and a 3.23 ERA.

Coincidentally, Tim Dierkes of MLB Trade Rumors predicted that the veteran bullpen arm could receive a three-year deal worth $33 million on the free agent market.

The Phillies bolstered their bullpen, signing one of the most consistent relievers in the game Thursday.

Before returning to the Yankees in 2017, Robertson spent three seasons with Chicago White Sox, where he served as their closer.

In a separate tweet, Heyman notes that the Rangers are also in the mix for top free-agent relievers and could be a serious contender for the services of Ottavino and Britton.

Over the holiday break last month, George A. King III of the New York Post reported that the Phillies were interested in former New York Yankees pitcher.
