  • US investigating Century Link internet outage 911 failures

CenturyLink is a global telecommunications company based in Monroe, Louisiana, serving customers in more than 60 countries and across the USA with the internet and other communications services, including phone and TV.

"Its breadth and duration are particularly troubling", he said.

Nationwide outages impacted 911 emergency call centers across the country, including all of Washington state, The Oregonian reported.

According to CenturyLink's latest Twitter update, the company has restored some services across the network in the past few hours, and is still working to resolve remaining issues.

The Monroe, Louisiana-based telecommunications company did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the FCC investigation or provide information as to how many customers were affected.

Texting 911 is one option, and many states have their own emergency service lines you can call should disaster strike.

The sheriff's office also said it appeared that Bisbee and Benson's 911 systems were down as well. ISP CenturyLink's network recently went down in certain parts of the U.S. (including Washington, Idaho, and Missouri) knocking out each location's 911 services in the process.

Counties all over the USA reported downtimes of their 911 call centers over the past hours, impacting states such as Washington, Oregon, Minnesota, Massachusetts, Idaho, New Mexico, Missouri, Arizona, Colorado, and even some 911 services across the border, in Canada. Patient records have been hard to access for medical centres in north Colorado and for other locations that haven't been confirmed. The 911 outage did not affect Snohomish or Whatcom counties, according to the call centers' social-media posts. Rather than using digital devices, they had to take notes with pencil and paper, according to the Greeley Tribune.

"Where CenturyLink is the 911 service provider 911 calls are completing", the company said in a tweet.
