According to Huawei's rotating chairman Ken Hu, Huawei has shipped over 10,000 base stations for the next-generation mobile technology.
Hu also pointed out that while there were allegations made - in the U.S. - that Huawei's behaviour was a problem, over the past 30 years the company had grown to become a US$100-billion firm with business in 170 countries.
Over 30 years, the company has never had a serious cyber security issue or seen any evidence showing its equipment is a security threat, he said.
"We take a diversified supply strategy", said Hu.
But the country did arrest Huawei's chief financial officer, Meng Wangzhou, who is also the daughter of the company's founder, as a result of a USA allegation that she violated worldwide sanctions against Iran.
While Huawei wouldn't address Meng's case directly, the company reiterated that it abides by worldwide law and is confident the judiciary will come to a fair conclusion. Germany's Deutsche Telekom and Japan's SoftBank are reportedly conducting a review of Huawei's 5G.
In a recent letter to National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Telecom Equipment and Services Export Promotion Council (TEPC) urged to "Ban the procurement of any Chinese telecom equipment in any government telecom network (centre or state), including power, rail, defence and other Public Sector Units". Huawei chairman Ken Hu called United States concerns "speculation" at an event at a manufacturing facility in Dongguan, China.
However, many believe that such bans are motivated by the current tensions between China and the U.S. and have nothing to do with security.
"For Huawei, our approach is to address these issues in strict accordance to the law". Huawei is also participating in 5G tenders of Japanese carriers.
Hu delivered strong messages of confidence in Huawei's business growth and prospects, citing the trust of hundreds of network operators, almost half of the world's Fortune 500 companies, and hundreds of millions of consumers.
The global controversy around "banning" Chinese telecom equipment company Huawei, particularly for 5G networks, has now spread to India, though "national interest" continues to be a point of contention.
