  • Pakistan won't be treated like'hired gun anymore says PM Imran

Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan gestures as he speaks during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Kartarpur border corridor, which will officially open next year, in Pakistan November 28, 2018.

Khalilzad arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday.A USA embassy statement issued Thursday said he met with top Pakistani political and military leadership during his two-day stay in the country.

Speaking at an event organized by the Washington Post, Dunford said that American military presence in Afghanistan is essential to contain terrorists who otherwise would regroup and take revenge on the US. Pakistan's earlier claim of "influence over Taliban" literally turned into a baggage. He said India "rebuffed all [his] overtures" because "the ruling party [the Bharatiya Janata Party] has an anti-Muslim, anti-Pakistan approach".

About government's efforts for development in Balochistan province, the premier said the federal government was working with Balochistan government for the uplifting of facilties in the province.

Shireen Mazari, the country's human rights minister, said on Twitter the 18 groups were responsible for spreading disinformation.

He maintained that past governments only spent money and resources on their strongholds but the PTI government is focusing on areas which were neglected in the past. "They said that we have time and time again asked the Americans, 'Can you tell us where the sanctuaries are, and we will go after them?' There are no sanctuaries in Pakistan", he said.

The prime minister earlier in a tweet had asked the USA government to reassess causes of their failures in Afghanistan instead of passing the blame on to Pakistan.

Gen. Ghafoor again rejected allegations his country is allowing the Taliban to plan attacks inside Afghanistan. He said Pakistani security forces have eliminated all terrorist sanctuaries on their side and a military-led massive construction effort is now underway to fence off the almost 2,600 kilometer border with Afghanistan.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has accused the U.S. of "pushing Pakistan away" and said he would never want to have a relation with Washington where his country is treated like a "hired gun". "Resolving that case is in our interest because it was an act of terrorism", he said. The Pakistani leader insisted there "are no sanctuaries in Pakistan".

In his interview, Khan expressed hope that talks with India would resume after the Lok Sabha elections due by May next year. "If there are a few hundred, maybe 2,000 to 3,000 Taliban [jihadis] who move into Pakistan, they could easily move into these Afghan refugee camps", he declared.

It believes that a Pakistani crackdown on the militants could be pivotal in deciding the outcome of the war.

Trump's letter was followed by a visit from USA envoy Zalmay Khalilzad, who has said he hopes a deal can be in place before the Afghan presidential elections, set for April next year.

During last month's exchange with Mr Trump, the Pakistani leader said his country had suffered 75,000 casualties and lost $123bn (£95.7bn) during America's so-called war on terror despite no one from his country being involved in the 9/11 attacks. I had gone on television and warned everyone that we will stand by the Supreme Court verdict. "The head of the TLP then passed a death sentence on the Supreme Court judges and kept saying that they should be killed".
