The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that a cross-border tunnel dug by Hezbollah into Israeli territory and exposed Tuesday as part of a large-scale operation against subterranean passageways from Lebanon is significantly larger that those tunnels dug by Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
All operations would take place within Israeli territory, Conricus said, though they still raised the risk of a response from Hezbollah.
"More broadly, we call on Iran and all of its agents to stop their regional aggression and provocation, which pose an unacceptable threat to Israeli and regional security", Bolton said.
Israeli army spokesperson Jonathan Conricus said the "attack tunnels" detected were not yet operational. He said the Israeli operation to counter the tunnels would be inside Israel, and would not cross the border.
The attack tunnels have always been rumored to have been dug from southern Lebanon into Israeli territory by the Iran backed terror group, but Israeli defense officials repeatedly either denied their existence or refused to discuss it. "Hezbollah uses the tunnels for strategic operations, and it's a big difference".
The IDF said that the tunnel was equipped with electrical and communication lines and would have taken some two years to build, likely due to the harsh terrain along the border.

Israel has long voiced concern about Iran's growing military presence along its northern border, warning of an Iranian corridor that could assist in the transfer of weapons to Hezbollah.
Since the start of that war, more than 200 strikes were carried out by Israel according to its military.
The operation comes weeks after Netanyahu faced a major crisis in his governing coalition over the handling of a cease-fire with Gaza militants. In recent years, Israel has destroyed dozens of tunnels dug by Hamas under their shared border.
Hezbollah meanwhile has also been distracted by the war in Syria, where it has fought fiercely alongside Assad's troops.
Hezbollah emerged with the help of Iran during Israel's occupation of southern Lebanon in the early 1980s.
Neither side appears interested quite yet in another full-fledged confrontation like the 2006 war, but any skirmish could spark an all-out conflict along the tense border.
