Bush's funeral in Washington, D.C. will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Washington National Cathedral.

A USA government plane has arrived in Texas to transport the body of former President George H.W. Bush to Washington for a state funeral.

Sully, a yellow Labrador retriever, became Bush's new service dog in June. "President Bush was such an fantastic man yet there is a sense of peace knowing that he and Barbara are together again and with Robin and just that it was time for him". Long before he came to rely on man's best friend to move around, he and Barbara Bush, who died in April, kept the company of Millie, an English springer spaniel named for Mildred Caldwell Kerr, a friend of the couple.

Members of the public may pay their respects as the president's body lies in state in the rotunda of the Capitol. "So, we look forward to doing that, and he certainly deserves it".

An American flag and one with the presidential seal flew nearby.

Members of the family, including children and grandchildren, will be taking part in each service.

Sully the dog will be travelling with the casket on the flight from Texas to Washington DC on Monday.

Jim McGrath, spokesman for the Bush family, tweeted out a photo on Sunday night, captioning it "mission complete".

Following the week of services, Bush will be laid to rest on his presidential library grounds at Texas A&M University, where his wife and Robin, his daughter who died of leukemia in 1953, are buried.
