  • Russia's President Vladimir Putin and Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman greet each other at the G20 Leaders' Summit in Buenos Aires

Putin and bin Salman are among the two most controversial figures at the summit in Buenos Aires, having both come under global criticism recently, and they seemed to bond over the shared experience.

Macron, undeterred and continuing on with the conversation, later says "I'm a man of my word".

Asked to comment on reports the CIA concluded Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was involved, Pompeo, director of the Central Intelligence Agency from January 2017 until April 2018, said he couldn't comment on the agency's assessment.

On Wednesday Mattis said there's "no smoking gun" connecting the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul to the Saudi crown prince he had often criticised.

The CIA has said that Prince Mohammed, Saudi Arabia's de facto leader, ordered the murder.

Erdogan said the Saudis have refused to help Turkish prosecutors with information on the whereabouts of Khashoggi's body and the identities of accomplices said to have supported the visiting Saudi hit squad.

The agreement is more watered down than it has been in past years, but Trudeau said any time countries can come together to discuss big issues it's a "good thing".

He also spoke with Prince Mohammed about the ongoing situation in Yemen and affirmed France's commitment to supporting a political solution to the conflict.

China and Saudi Arabia have close energy ties. The video of their astounding handshake went viral on social media, with voices dissenting against the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi being left fuming.

Saudi Arabia has long sought to diversify away from its reliance on the U.S. and has increasingly stepped up its engagement with China, its largest trading partner with US$42.36 billion in bilateral trade in 2017.

On Friday, Mrs May delivered a "robust" message to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman that the United Kingdom expected his country to co-operate fully with the Turkish probe and to conduct its own investigation in a "credible and transparent" way.

She also vowed to raise the Saudi's role in the war in Yemen, saying he was "very concerned" that the country's humanitarian crisis is "getting worse".

May also held talks with the summit's host, President Mauricio Macri, at which the long-standing dispute over the sovereignty of the Falklands took a back seat as discussions focused on trade.
