Trump On His Own Government’s Climate Change Report: ‘I Don’t Believe It’

  • Trump rejects projections in climate change report

As California is grappling with the deadliest wildfire in its history, President Donald Trump's administration warns that such catastrophes could become more common and more severe as the climate continues to warm. "I've read some of it, and it is fine".

When asked by reporters outside the White House on Monday about such a devastating impact on the national economy, Trump said he didn't believe it.

The analysis is an annual assessment mandated by Congress, and was compiled by government scientists.

According to CNN, the report that President Trump does not believe was released on Black Friday last week when the country was paying absolutely zero attention to politics. "In order to fulfill my solemn duty to protect America and its citizens, the United States will withdraw from the Paris climate accord, but begin negotiations to re-enter either the Paris accord or really an entirely new transaction on terms that are fair to the United States, its businesses, and its taxpayers". In the meantime, the US is still attending worldwide climate negotiations, but at next week's critical UN COP24 Summit in Poland US officials are set to focus on promoting "clean coal" to developing nations.

'And here's the other thing, you're going to have to China and Japan and all of Asia and all of these other countries, you know, it addresses our country. Every other country, bar the U.S., remains committed to the Paris Agreement. Right now we're at the cleanest we've ever been.

"All the proposals I've seen so far that would address any of these issues would devastate the US economy and have little or no benefit that is demonstrable from our standpoint", Lee said. But more importantly, let me add to that.

Breshears said that while the report wasn't meant to provide solutions, changes in human behavior can "help reduce the overall magnitude of the impacts". White House spokeswoman Lindsay Walters said the new report was "largely based on the most extreme scenario, which contradicts long-established trends by assuming that.there would be limited technology and innovation, and a rapidly expanding population".

"With continued growth in emissions at historic rates, annual losses in some economic sectors are projected to reach hundreds of billions of dollars by the end of the century - more than the current gross domestic product (GDP) of many US states", the report, the Fourth National Climate Assessment Volume II, said. The U.S. military too, billions of dollars.

The Fourth National Climate Assessment is yet another reminder that reality will catch up to the States, no matter how much the president tries to ignore and deny it. Or, better put, news that challenges Trump's fact-free position that all of this talk of global warming and climate change is belied by, uh, the fact that it was cold in the Northeast on the day before Thanksgiving.

The snowballing costs are the effect of dozens of combined factors, all the result of global warming.

The report mentions the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact, which was formed in 2010 by Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe and Palm Beach counties and now includes 35 local governments trying to find ways to cope with climate change. Carol Werner, executive director of the policy nonprofit Environmental and Energy Study Institute, says in a statement.
