Although Bredesen ran as a Democrat, he largely ran away from the national party and regularly touted his ties to the state and independence from Washington, D.C. The strategy was clear: He hoped to bank on the fact he won every county in the state in 2006 during his second run for governor and looked to tag Blackburn as a traditional Washington ideologue.

The host of Fox News' "Ingraham Angle" took to Twitter after the results came in to chide Swift, quoting lyrics from her song "Shake It Off".

'As much as I have in the past and would like to continue voting for women in office, I can not support Marsha Blackburn.

The Democrats won't be picking up a Senate seat in Tennessee.

The race between Blackburn and Bredesen was neck and neck, with Bredesen even leading in multiple polls, up until the battle over the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh took center stage.

First elected to the U.S. House in 2002, Blackburn styles herself as a "hardcore, card-carrying Tennessee conservative" ready to fight for Trump's agenda.

Taylor got political for the first time, going to bat for Bredesen and saying she could not in her right conscience vote for Blackburn, who's been seen at rallies in support of President Trump. Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me, ' the 28-year-old artist wrote in a post on Instagram.

On Tuesday night, she was happy to claim a piece of Tennessee history for women in the Senate.

'I believe in the fight for LGBTQ rights, and that any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender is WRONG. She's a tremendous woman'. "As much as I have in the past and would like to continue voting for women in office, I can not support Marsha Blackburn", Swift wrote in a lengthy Instagram post that delighted many and predictably turned off Fox News personalities, who regularly rail on celebrities for voicing political opinions.
