Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi was previously general manager and editor-in-chief of Al-Arab News Channel, and has been a very high-profile critic of country's Crown Prince, Mohammad bin Salman and King, Salman of Saudi Arabia.

On top of that, Sunday night saw rumours of Crown Jewel being removed from WWE's events page take the internet by storm. The shows are part of a 10-year, multi-million dollar deal between WWE and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

An extension of his ongoing storyline with Triple H and Shawn Michaels makes some amount of sense, especially if WWE cancels Crown Jewel (please cancel Crown Jewel and end the relationship with Saudi Arabia, WWE) and they need a place to do DX vs. the Brothers of Destruction.

It will be the second WWE event held in Saudi Arabia this year following the "Greatest Royal Rumble" in April.

He fled the country in September 2017, and has not been since after visiting the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

Senator Chris Murphy of CT, who is a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and represents the state WWE is based, has urged them to call off the event. Chris Murphy telling Independent Journal Review: "This is a brazen assault on the freedom of the press and a slap in the face to the United States, if this murder occurred as it seems it did". "In fact, scratch any positive story about him and you will find a much grimmer truth underneath", Oliver said, noting how the Saudis ended its ban on women driving just weeks after it reportedly jailed a group of female activists who were campaigning for the right to drive.

WWE has told CBS Sports that it is "monitoring the situation" in Saudi Arabia.
