David Price's playoff woes continue as Yankees even ALDS with Red Sox

  • Looks like Yankees dodged Aaron Hicks scare

Thanks to a pair of towering Sanchez homers - one that landed in the seats atop Fenway Park's Green Monster and another that cleared it, tracked at an estimated 479 feet - the Yankees beat their rival Boston Red Sox 6-2 on Saturday night, evening the American League Division Series at 1-1. He jumped on the first pitch, a knuckleball from Tim Wakefield that didn't move enough, and smashed it into the left-field stands for a walk-off home run that sent the Yankees to the World Series.

"This is my first postseason start", Eovaldi said. "Whatever I have to do to help us do that, I'm fine with". He pitched for the Yankees in 2015 and '16 before injuring his elbow, which required Tommy John surgery for the second time. "This is going to be a little crazier for this Boston game, for sure".

"Monday", Price said matter-of-factly when asked when he could conceivably pitch again. At Yankee Stadium specifically, Price is 0-6 with a 9.79 ERA, and has allowed 13 home runs in just more than 30 innings since he joined the Red Sox. He entered the game as a pinch-runner for Ruben Sierra in the eighth inning, but was stranded when Alfonso Soriano hit into a force out with the bases loaded and two outs in a tie game.

Four batters later, Red Sox manager Alex Cora had seen enough and what could well end up being a beleaguered Boston bullpen by the time this series is done was summoned early.

That's what the Yankees will need in order to take a series lead against Boston.

"I don't know where he got that, but I didn't say [anything] about [being] hurt", Severino said. "I'm trying to do the same thing that I have been doing; stay aggressive and try to get that first pitch strike out of the way".

Who follows Eovaldi in the late innings, if necessary, is anybody's best guess.

Games 3 and 4 are at Yankee Stadium on Monday and Tuesday nights, with Game 5 back in Boston on Thursday, if necessary.

After holding off the Dodgers in a tense ninth inning, the Atlanta Braves aim to even the NLDS in Game 4 at SunTrust Park.

With Porcello pitching two-thirds of an inning, the Red Sox were forced to make a decision. He has one more chance to get his act together against a team that is obviously in his head. The former Yankee was in the radio booth for ESPN still, following around teams in the National League but checking in on his former team's postseason run from afar.

Barnes, Ryan Brasier and Craig Kimbrel are the likely options should Boston hold the lead beyond Eovaldi's start. Porcello has been more effective on the road than at home this year, which seems to bode well for the Red Sox's current situation.

"I just talked to him and told him just be accountable". "But with the Red Sox in the division, they were running away with it". That's it.' Hey, I get it.
