Britain is preparing new proposal on Irish border: UK PM May

With Britain set to leave the bloc on March 29, talks are stalled and a powerful pro-Brexit faction in May's party is urging her to be tough and, if need be, walk away without a deal.

DUP leader Arlene Foster has praised former British foreign secretary Boris Johnson's "positive" vision for Brexit and said the Good Friday Agreement should not be considered untouchable as negotiations to reach a final deal with the European Union continue.

The government has already promised to protect the rights of more than three million European Union citizens now living in Britain after Brexit, even if there is no divorce deal.

At any rate, her entrance at the Conservative Party Conference - set to ABBA's "Dancing Queen", naturally - wasn't just a self-deprecating reference to the recent viral video of her rather unconventional dance moves. We wait to see the text, words on a piece of paper, in relation to any proposals that are being put forward. We are entering the toughest part of the negotiations. "But if we stick together and hold our nerve I know we can get a deal that delivers for Britain".

On Labour's party conference: 'I listened carefully to Corbyn last week, and it was astonishing that he had absolutely nothing to say about the wealth creating sector of the economy... the grafters and the grifters'.

"Will employers now make a distinction between the types of people who they would be willing to hire - whether they are married or whether they have children?"

She said: "I have said very clearly, it is a matter for the Conservative Party".

Sir Graham is required to call a no-confidence vote in Mrs May if he receives 48 letters from MPs.

"Turns out there is a plan". The prime minister fended off a harsh speech from former Tory ally Boris Johnson, who accused May of betraying the Brexit pledge.

But in that speech, Johnson seemed to pull his punches, backing May for now while making a rallying cry for the party to return to its traditional values and to "chuck Chequers" in a sign of his leadership ambitions.

"The ability of people from trading partners to deliver services and student exchange programs will form part of future trade agreements", the prime minister said.

"It is no surprise that we have had a range of different views expressed this week", she said.

The DUP leader said she could work with Mr Johnson if he became prime minister. And that means two things.

"We will not betray the result of the referendum and we will never break up our country", Mrs May said.

Speaking to BBC Radio Four at the Conservative Party conference, Foster said "There can not be a border down the Irish Sea, a differential between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK".

But Mrs May accused Mr Johnson of "tearing up our guarantee to the people of Northern Ireland" that there would be no hard Irish border, arguing that a Canada-style deal could not apply to the whole UK.

DUP leader Arlene Foster described it earlier on Wednesday as a "blood red" line, in a ratcheting-up of the party's rhetoric.

In her speech, May stuck to her plan, but did not call it by its moniker - Chequers - named after the prime ministerial country residence where she hashed out the proposals in July. "It's not taking back control". Good for jobs, good for the union.

She said: "Our mission as Conservatives must be to show them we can build an economy that does".
