Jurgen Klopp explains why he substituted Mohamed Salah in Chelsea clash

Daniel Sturridge has scored within three minutes of coming off the bench to earn Liverpool a late 1-1 draw against former club Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Jürgen Klopp offered his support to Mohamed Salah after substituting him in Liverpool's 1-1 draw at Chelsea, and backed the reigning footballer of the year to overcome his first hard spell since joining the club.

It moved Liverpool back level in 19 points with leaders Manchester City, who beat Brighton 2-0 earlier in the day.

'It was not Mo's best game of his career, 100%.

He missed two decent half-chances in the first half before seeing Rudiger deny him in athletic style, and his link-up play with Roberto Firmino was a long way short of its brilliant best. As I said, it was just about getting the result. "It's just important to keep pushing forward, having a positive outlook on everything going on and it's been good far".

Sturridge spoke to Chelsea coach Gianfranco Zola after the final whistle and he says he has been watching footage of the former Italy global for inspiration.

"It was so deserved for Daniel, a really nice moment and I'm so happy for him". It's just one game and we have plenty more to go. "It's great to have a chat with a guy like him".

While Salah's form in front of goal has been cause for concern for some fans, his overall performance showed shades of the player who took the league by storm last season.

"What a game, a spectacular football game", he told BBC Sport. "He really is in a good moment". "It's really OK. We have to deal with the situation but it is not hard".

"We thought West Brom was a good idea for him to get minutes under his belt again, and when he came back, he was an option for us".

Liverpool now boast a flawless record in the league, whilst Chelsea are only two points behind following their goalless draw with West Ham United.

"So I'd say it was between those two but you can't discount Chelsea. We deserved a draw, the bare minimum, because we played well, had a lot of chances in the first half and a couple in the second as well, so I think we got what we deserved in the end".
