How the FBI will investigate the allegations against Brett Kavanaugh

  • Ford testifies that her only mutual friend with Kavanaugh was the man named by Ed Whelan

The announcement by Deborah Ramirez' lawyer John Clune indicates that the FBI probe of Kavanaugh, ordered by U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday, will look beyond separate allegations of attempted rape leveled against the conservative federal appeals court judge by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford at a dramatic Senate hearing this week. A statement from the White House says, "As the Senate has requested, this update must be limited in scope and completed in less than one week".

"A thorough FBI investigation is critical to developing all the relevant facts", attorney Debra Katz said in a statement released Friday evening.

Minutes before the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to move Kavanaugh to the floor for a final vote, Senator Jeff Flake called for a supplemental FBI investigation into Kavanaugh.

On Friday afternoon, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted 11-10 to advance Kavanaugh's nomination to the full Senate, though Sen.

A week's delay means Kavanaugh will not be able to take his seat with the other eight Justices when they convene on Monday.

Kavanaugh's childhood friend Mark Judge, who Ford says was in the room at the time of the incident, has agreed to cooperate with investigators. Kavanaugh has emphatically denied all allegations against him.

That sentiment was shared by Sarah Round, 69, a retired elementary school teacher of Newport Center, Vermont, who felt empathy for Ford but not at the expense of Kavanaugh's reputation and future.

"No artificial limits as to time or scope should be imposed on this investigation", the attorney stated. He also said that a moment when he was confronted by women who said they had been sexually assaulted "certainly struck a chord".

When Dr. Ford's allegations against Judge Kavanaugh surfaced two weeks ago, I insisted that she be allowed to testify before the committee moved to a vote.

The one week delay is to enable the FBI to investigate Ford's allegations. "I hoped that would help provide leverage", Flake said. Her allegations only surfaced after the Kavanaugh confirmation hearings had ended, and Thursday's testimonies revealed that Sen. Two other women besides Ford have also lodged public sexual misconduct allegations against Kavanaugh.

"I will be voting no on Judge Kavanaugh's nomination. They are just compiling the investigation and reporting on it". "I think it's galvanized the women on the right more than it's galvanized the women on the left". "Grassley who is doing a very good job", he said.

But he was also determined to demonstrate "that the process is fair , even if Democrats are "not going to vote for" Kavanaugh, he added, Politico reported". Agents should get support from the Judiciary Committee for rapid immunity and subpoena decisions, he said.
