He made the comments at a news conference in NY a day before Judge Brett Kavanaugh was set to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee amid multiple accusations of sexual misconduct.

President Trump is standing by his nominee.

Citing a violation of the separation of powers, U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley of OR says he's filed an injunction to delay a final vote on Brett Kavanaugh...

After the hearing took a short break, Wallace said Ford was extremely emotional, raw and credible in her testimony and the first round of questioning. "I know all too painfully that being a person of faith does not stop men from being sexual predators".

"It seems to me that that's what's happened, and that's correct, and that's what needs to happen here as well", she said.

But the timing of the accusations, released by Avenatti just before a Senate Judiciary Committee vote which has been scheduled by Republicans for Friday, has raised some eyebrows.

"I think it's going to be a very very important day in our country", Trump said. One alleges that Kavanuagh exposed himself to her at a party while they were classmates at Yale University. Trump's message when he spoke with Kavanaugh, a source familiar with the call said, was to be aggressive and forceful in his denials, and not afraid to push back on the allegations.

"If I thought he was guilty of something like this, yes, sure", Trump said at a press conference on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in NY.

Opening the session on Thursday morning, Republican senator Chuck Grassley thanked both Kavanaugh and his accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, for appearing before the committee.

"In Room 226 in the Dirksen Senate Office building, Kavanaugh will effectively stand trial after three women came forward with accusations about his conduct as a teenager in the alcohol-fueled youth party culture of the early 1980s".

He vehemently denies Ford's allegations and says that perhaps she was sexually assaulted by someone in some place but it wasn't him. She says Kavanaugh pinned her to a bed, groped her, and held his hand over her mouth as she screamed, and described the effect the alleged attack had on her life, how she came to the decision to make her allegations public, and how that choice has impacted her family. Earlier this month, he told Judiciary Committee staffers he didn't recall ever meeting Ford.

In her statement, Swetnick said she previously worked for the Vietnam War Commemoration under the Department of Defense; the US Mint; the IRS; Customs and Border Protection; the State Department; and the DC government.

Trump told reporters on Wednesday he believed the accusations against Kavanaugh were false, likening them to the sexual assault allegations made against him by as many as 17 women. Judge has previously said he has no recollection of the incident described by Ford.

She said she saw efforts by "Kavanaugh and others to cause girls to become inebriated and disoriented so they could then be "gang raped" in a side room or bedroom by a "train" of numerous boys".
