"President Trump has said when the Iranians are prepared to talk about fundamentally changing their behavior, then he is of course prepared to talk to them", Pompeo told "CBS This Morning" co-host Norah O'Donnell during a live interview on Wednesday.

He smiled, taking in stride, and proclaimed, 'didn't expect that reaction but that's OK, ' before moving on the extraordinary progress he says he's overseen in the U.S. "We refuse to accept any unwarranted accusations against China", said Wang.

He said a policy of sanctions and containment on Iran was not enough and that a long-term plan to manage the crisis should be put together.

Trump has had a troubled relationship with the United Nations since entering the White House.

"We had fun. That was not laughing at me", he said.

Pompeo criticized the European Union's intention to establish a work-around to USA sanctions, while Bolton warned of "hell to pay" if Iran continued aggravating other nations.

Rouhani is nearly certain not to attend the Security Council meeting that will test Trump's ability to maintain diplomatic decorum and interact with representatives of rival nations.

President Trump defended his "America First" agenda in a speech to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, in effect spiking the football at what his secretary of state described as the "Super Bowl of diplomacy".

Trump's statement somewhat echoes one made yesterday by America's United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley, who either bravely or naively offered to Fox And Friends that diplomats simply "loved how honest he is".

The SPV aims to keep trade flowing even if possible US sanctions hit Tehran.

Iran has banned imports of mostly non-essential and luxury items since June as the government tries to prevent foreign currency from leaving the country.

"So true", Trump said as he looked out at the crowd of United Nations diplomats.

Shortly before he spoke, in fact, U.N. Secretary-General Guterres had defended global cooperation as the only way to tackle the challenges and threats of increasingly chaotic times. Democratic principles are under siege, and the rule of law is being undermined.

Trump's address was met largely by silence from world leaders still not comfortable with go-it-alone views that have strained U.S. relationships with traditional allies worldwide.

"We need a President who isn't a laughing stock to the entire World", Trump tweeted in 2014 when he was flirting with entering the political arena. But even before his arrival for the annual gathering of world leaders and diplomats, the desired image was being eclipsed as Trump was forced to confront the salacious and embarrassing in the controversies over Rosenstein and Kavanaugh.

Trump insisted at a Wednesday news conference that he started grinning and foreign counterparts chimed in with laughter.
