Trump Dismisses Allegations Against Brett Kavanaugh as 'Highly Unsubstantiated,' 'Totally Political'

  • Sen. Diane Feinstein D-Calif. released a cryptic statement concerning Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh as Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee seek to delay his confirmation

As for Kavanaugh, he tells the New Yorker.

"This alleged event from 35 years ago did not happen", Kavanaugh wrote in a statement.

There are still unresolved procedural and logistical issues regarding Ford's testimony, her lawyers said, including whether the Judiciary Committee's Republican senators, who are all male, or staff attorneys would question her. Ford's lawyers said "various senators have been dismissive of her account and should have to shoulder their responsibility to ask her questions".

Kavanaugh has categorically denied both accusations.

The White House is standing behind the president's nominee, saying this is the latest claim in a "coordinated smear campaign by the Democrats created to tear down a good man".

Speaking at the United Nations in NY on Monday, Mr Trump said Brett Kavanaugh is "outstanding", adding: "I am with him all the way".

He continuedL "I am with Judge Kavanaugh and I look forward to a vote. He said to me, 'I am 100 percent sure'". Kavanaugh deinied the latest allegation. As of Sunday evening, Trump had not spoken to Kavanaugh himself. She tells the New Yorker she recalls other students telling her to kiss it. Ramirez says she pushed the person away, touching the penis in the process, and then saw Kavanaugh standing next to her, pulling his trousers up and laughing. They were both present at a party in a dorm room their freshman year, Ramirez told The New Yorker's Ronan Farrow and Jane Mayer.

No other witnesses - including former classmates who have spoken to the press but declined to voluntarily appear before the committee - will be called or subpoenaed, making it a pure case of she said, he said. "I don't think it was just 'Brett.' And I remember hearing and being mortified that this was out there". It sent out a long list of talking points highlighting weaknesses in the story of Deborah Ramirez, the woman who recounted her story to the magazine. "We'll see how it goes with the Senate and we'll see how it goes with the vote", Trump said this morning. "The behavior she describes would be completely out of character for Brett", the statement reads.

At about the same time, Michael Avenatti, the lawyer who rose to fame by aggressively taking on President Donald Trump on behalf of his client Stormy Daniels, tweeted that he had another woman with an allegation who will be demanding that Kavanaugh's nomination be withdrawn.

Additional reporting from Newsy affiliate CNN. She posted a sign saying she has no comment on her front door. Meanwhile, the GOP reacted as unconscionably as is humanly possible: When they heard about it, they tried to speed up the confirmation process - officially rendering them what one critic calls "a sexual predator protection racket" - and the White House is flatly denying the charges.

According to the publication, the allegations are now being investigated by at least two Democrats in the Senate.

Senior Republican staffers have likewise learned of the allegation and expressed concern about its impact on the nomination, The New Yorker added. Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer and the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, California Sen.

The White House has dismissed Ramirez's allegations as being part of a "coordinated smear campaign".

A Feinstein spokesman said her office had no knowledge of the New Yorker story before it published.

He suggested that the confirmation process needs to move ahead with the hearing as now scheduled for Thursday with a final committee vote "soon thereafter".
