Even before the announcement of Morton's departure, the company's shares were already seeing a slight decline in Friday's pre-market trading as reports of Elon Musk's behavior in a podcast with comedian Joe Rogan emerged. Not only did Musk not have any kind of written funding deal, many Tesla investors saw little upside in approving a deal that would reduce Tesla's transparency and the liquidity of Tesla stock.

Rogan suggested Musk probably couldn't smoke "because of stockholders, right?"

The blunt usage began near the end of the interview when Rogan produced it and Musk responded by asking, "I mean, it's legal, right?" "It's very hard to keep a auto company alive", Musk said. Shortly after, HR head Gabrielle Toledano, who'd taken a leave of absence last month, also said she wouldn't return.

This recent public display comes amid concerns about Musk's leadership qualities, and is bound to fuel further questions about his mental fitness.

Rogan told Musk about a small container he bought in Mexico that he had hoped would hold joints.

After the podcast aired Tesla shares dropped 9 per cent, wiping $3.1 billion off the company's value (at the time of writing.) Although, that may have more to do with Musk's robotic behaviour than smoking weed.

Rogan asked. "Almost never", said Musk, chairman and chief executive officer of Tesla and chairman of the board at SpaceX.

"I'm not a regular smoker of weed", Musk said.

Marijuana consumption is legal in the state of California, where the podcast was hosted.

"I don't think most people would like to be me", said Musk.

Tesla's chief accounting officer, Dave Morton, said he was leaving the company after considering the level of attention Tesla has received and the "pace within the company".

Upon Rogan asking if he's ever had it, Musk says that he thinks he "tried one once" before Rogan teases: "Come on, man". "When I was 5 or 6 or something, I thought I was insane", he said.
