4 dead after active shooter opens fire at bank in downtown Cincinnati

Writer Anne Saker reported on Twitter that bystanders said they heard 12 shots, and police were bringing a Metro bus to the scene to take witnesses away from it.

Killed were Pruthvi Raj Kandepi, 25, Richard Newcomer, 64, and Luis Felipe Calderón, 48, Hamilton County Coroner Lakshmi Sammarco, said. The number of potential victims has not yet been confirmed, and it's not clear what the name of the suspect is at this point.

Two other victims were injured. The hospital later said on Twitter that two of the four victims had died, another was in critical condition and the fourth was in serious condition. "I think there's something sick at work here and we as a country have got to deal with it", he said. Witnesses are sharing that the shooter was a white man in a business suit and opened fire in the lobby.

Isaac added that Perez fired about 35 shots and was carrying 200 rounds in the briefcase.

Authorities believe that Santa Perez has lived in the Cincinnati area since 2015.

"We're a bit rattled", said a Fifth Third Bank manager.

Police at the time advised people in the area to remain on lockdown until notified it was safe to leave.

"Our officers responded very quickly", Isaac said.

Gregory Hartsfield told CNN affiliate WXIX that the shooting unfolded on an upper floor of the building.

Police have not yet determined whether he was killed by officers or by a self-inflicted gunshot.


No police officers were hurt. Call received at 9:10am.

Police completed their search of the crime scene around 11 a.m.

"We did hear a gun shooting from the 29th floor", he told the station. It is unclear how he got to Fountain Square, but he entered multiple businesses before going to the bank, according to the police chief. "We didn't know where to go because we didn't have a backdoor", she told reporters.

"It is all too clear that we have to do more in OH to address the gun violence affecting communities across the state", said a statement from the OH chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense. The suspect also died, police said.

Dozens of law enforcement officers and medics swarmed the scene. The FBI and ATF are also assisting.

"Random mass shootings, which plague our Nation, are not normal and we as a Country can't allow them to be normalized".

"He was actively shooting innocent victims it appears", Cranley said.

Cranley past year joined more than 1,000 mayors across the country in signing a pact to end illegal gun use and enforce current gun laws. "Our hearts are broken today".
