  • Roy Moore Suing Sacha Baron Cohen Over His 'Who Is America' Appearance

The lawsuit arose from a July 29 broadcast where Baron Cohen, disguised as fictional Israeli anti-terrorism expert Erran Morad, interviewed Moore and demonstrated a supposed "pedophile detector" that beeped when waved near him. In an interview with Moore, Cohen's Morad claims that Israel has discovered that pedophiles secrete a certain enzyme at higher levels than "non perverts".

In the suit, Moore says he believed he was appearing on a network called Yerushalayim TV - which doesn't exist - and was going to receive an award for his support of Israel.

The lawsuit filed Wednesday in federal court in Washington, D.C., accuses Baron Cohen of defaming Moore and says Moore "suffered extreme emotional distress" as a result of "being falsely portrayed as a sex offender and pedophile" on the show.

The device repeatedly beeped as it got near Moore, who sat stone faced. "I don't know, maybe Israeli technology hasn't developed properly".

While Moore signed a release for the interview, the case alleges that release itself was fraudulent.

The couple filed the lawsuit because "they have been directly affected by the unlawful conduct" stated in the complaint, according to the court documents.

Moore's lawyer claims the judge and his wife had "been the subject of widespread ridicule and humiliation" because of Cohen's actions, including "severe emotional distress and pain and financial damage".

"The press has been sent copies of an alleged complaint, yet to our knowledge SHOWTIME has not been served". " on the Showtime cable channel, which is part of the CBS Corporation".

During his senate run previous year, eight women accusedMoore of sexual misconduct, including several who said they were teenagers at the time.

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin also appeared on the show, slamming the prank in which Cohen appeared as a disabled US veteran in a wheelchair as "evil" and "sick". Moore denied the allegations throughout the race.

Former Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore has sued Sacha Baron Cohen for defamation following his appearance on the actor's Showtime series, "Who is America?".
