  • New Nike ad campaign featuring Colin Kaepernick prompts burning response from some fans

The campaign, which marks the 30th anniversary of Nike introducing its famous motto, was immediately met with backlash, and burnings, because of Kaepernick's involvement. "Even if it means sacrificing everything" above the trademark Nike swoosh.

Kaepernick's protest inspired others to take part. The NFL quarterback's movement spread around the NFL, causing Trump to say past year that any player who knelt during the anthem was a "son of a bitch" and should be fired.

Reaction has been flooding social media since news broke that Colin Kaepernick is starring in Nike's "Just Do It" ad campaign.

On Twitter, they hit out at the deal using the hashtag #JustBurnIt - a play on Nike's slogan "Just Do It" - which trended on Twitter alongside #BoycottNike. That whole story makes the Kaepernick-Nike alliance a bit more interesting.

Fans upset with Nike's decision to feature Colin Kaepernick in its 30th anniversary "Just Do It" campaign have burned shoes and gear in protest, and called for a boycott of the company.

However most responders were positive towards the campaign and the message of Nike, with many saying they would boost their consumption of the product from now on. He went on to consistently kneel during the anthem, and while he went unsigned last season, a handful of other players had continued the practice.

In a dispute with unmistakable racial overtones, Trump has regularly criticized the protests begun by Kaepernick, which spread across all of the National Football League's teams.

Actor Zach Braff tweeted sarcastically: "Nike ran the numbers".

Bradley, a longtime captain of the USA national team, has proved to be a thoughtful observer on social issues in the past.

The ad prompted support and criticism across the internet.

The practice of kneeling during the anthem proved divisive previous year, however, with Trump characterizing it as disrespectful to the United States flag and military.

"Will kneel for social injustices any day of the week rather than stand for intolerance and bigotry", she tweeted.

Critics claimed Kaepernick was disrespecting the flag, the anthem and the military.
