Woodward describes several instances where Trump administration officials - chief economic adviser Gary Cohn and White House Staff Secretary Rob Porter, in particular - removed documents from the president's desk to keep Mr Trump from signing them.

If you take seriously the revelations in Bob Woodward's book "Fear" - and how can you not, given Woodward's almost half-century of scoops about Washington's elite? - then it's time for President Trump to be removed from office via the 25th Amendment because he is clearly "unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office".

Here are some of the most revealing and disturbing excerpts from Woodward's book, which will be published on September 11.

According to the Post: "Under orders from the president, Porter drafted a notification letter withdrawing from Nafta". The president reportedly lashed out at Sessions to former staff secretary Rob Porter for Sessions recusing himself from the Russian Federation probe. Trump has called Sessions "mentally retarded" and a "dumb Southerner", according to Woodward. "He couldn't even be a one-person country lawyer down in Alabama".

"I have the pleasure of being privy to those conversations. and I have not once heard the president talk about assassinating Assad", Haley told reporters on Tuesday. It ended with Dowd warning that Trump would end up "in an orange jumpsuit" if he went under oath.

Woodward concludes the call by saying "I believe in our country, and because you're our president, I wish you good luck".

At the meeting, Trump questioned USA government spending in the region, as well as the significance of having a big US military presence on the Korean Peninsula, Woodward wrote. "He just made something up".

A number of other officials from the president's staff - including Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, both of whom were specifically referenced in the book - have come out against it.

The White House didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

Mr Cohn, who tried to rein in President Trump's protectionist impulses, also planned to remove a similar memo that would have withdrawn the United States from the North American Free Trade Agreement with Mexico and Canada, Mr Woodward wrote.

Former Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward speaking during an event to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Watergate. Lindsay Graham of SC, to put in a good word for him as well.

The advanced excerpts are already providing plenty of dirt, so TooFab sifted through the mud to find the juiciest gems, including numerous insults the president's own staff used to described him, as well as a fiery exchange between former Trump adviser Steve Bannon and Ivanka Trump.

Trump did not speak with Woodward until the manuscript was complete, the newspaper reported. She told reporters at United Nations headquarters that she had been privy to conversations about the Syrian chemical weapons attacks, "and I have not once ever heard the president talk about assassinating Assad". You're just tapping me along. I don't want you doing any more negotiations. "We'll see what happens".

In the book, Woodward writes about Mattis and Kelly's frustrations about working with the president, at times defying his demands. The national security team then set about developing options for a conventional air strike. According to Woodward, the interview did not go well.

After that meeting, according to Woodward, Mattis said to colleagues that Trump had the understanding "a fifth- or sixth-grader" - a 10- or 11-year-old child.

Kelly also questioned the president's ability intelligence, according to Woodward.
