Brooks Koepka tops Tiger Woods by two shots in PGA Championship

  • Gary Woodland leads US PGA

Topping it off, he sank the putt for a birdie (his fourth on the front nine) that put him at 11-under, two strokes off the lead as he makes the turn.

But a couple of loose swings led to consecutive bogeys and suddenly it was game on, a four-under-par 66 not exactly what Koepka had in mind a couple of hours earlier at Bellerive.

His 2018 campaign has taken everyone by surprise and came close to winning his first PGA Tour event in five years at the Valspar Championship, finishing one-shot back.

"I feel like, if I do what I'm supposed to do", Koepka said, "I should win the golf tournament".

Speaking after his third-round 66, Woods admitted the delay in play over the course of the weekend has taken it's toll on him.

Brooks Koepka had his rivals on the ropes but could not deliver a knockout punch and had his lead whittled to two strokes over Adam Scott after the third round at the PGA Championship on Saturday.

Thomas turned birdie into bogey at the turn with a three-putt from 5 feet, and he missed a short par putt on the 14th to fall back.

Sirens blared across Bellerive, putting the second round of the PGA Championship on hold and ending a day of scoring rarely seen in a major.

Heavy rains and thunder forced rounds to be halted on Friday and the likes of Rickie Fowler, Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Lowry were out on Saturday morning to catch up with the rest.

"It's hard to make big numbers", Woodland said.

Koepka was at 8-under 132, two shots behind.

Former world number one Woods, who on Saturday morning finished off the last 11 holes of a storm-halted second-round 66, made a sizzling afternoon start, opening with back-to-back birdies and, after a bogey at five, adding two more at the par-3 sixth and par-4 seventh.

He put a attractive swing on it, ending with a pose that would make a flawless photo in a book on golf fundamentals on the page showing what a finish is supposed to look like. Players try to downplay it, and I've downplayed it over the years myself because you're trying to downplay it yourself a little bit, but it's a pretty intense environment out there. And I blew it by about four feet and then pulled the next one.

Woodland and the rest of the field are chasing Koepka, who has won the past two U.S. Opens. That led Rich Lerner of the Golf Channel to make a comment that is sure to bring a smile to the face of Jayhawks fans while drawing a sigh from Mizzou fans. "I get it all the time, so I'm used to it by now". And I would love to hang around tomorrow.
