The Los Angeles Lakers star also said that he would not visit the White House if he won an National Basketball Association championship as long as Trump is president.

Not one to hold back responses, Trump tweeted that Lemon is the "dumbest man on television". It's a disgrace. It's racist.

Trump later highlighted a recent sit-down between Don Lemon and NBA All-Star LeBron James, who isn't particularly a fan of the president.

"Look, there might be a cautionary lesson in LeBron for kids". "I Like Mike!" he concludes the mini rant. "The most important thing we can give them is structure", says James, "they just want someone to feel like we care".

While James' interview aired Monday night and into Tuesday, the president clearly didn't hear about it until Friday.

And this time, following an interview about the new "I Promise' public school James opened for underprivileged kids in Akron, the President decided was the time to attack James".

During the sit-down, James spoke of sports as something that unites people, and added that the president was "using sports to kinda divide us".

'I believe our president is trying to divide us. he is, he's dividing us and what I have noticed over the last few months is that he's kind of used sport to divide'. "Statues has nothing to do with us now!"

He was responding to remarks by then-Cavs star James and Warriors ace Stephen Curry, who both said they would not attend a White House reception.

The basketball player appeared at a rally for Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential campaign in his home state of OH, a critical swing state during the election that Trump ended up carrying.

Mr. Trump has never before criticized James directly. In 2013, he congratulated James on winning Athlete of the Year at the ESPYs and "a great guy". He recently moved to the Los Angeles Lakers from the Cleveland Cavaliers, signing a four-year £116 million deal with the California team.
