Manchester City announce new Gabriel Jesus contract with brilliant video

  • The Community Shield can often promise more for a club's season than is ultimately delivered

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says he is excited with the prospect of learning from Chelsea's new head coach Maurizio Sarri this season.

Guardiola has previously spoken of his excitement to lock horns with Sarri in the top-flight throughout the course of the upcoming season and ahead of the sides' Community Shield outing this weekend, the Spaniard was full of praise again for his counterpart.

In contrast, Sarri has had to work his way up from lower-league managerial jobs and is yet to win a major competition despite enjoying an impressive spell at home-town club Napoli which saw him land the Chelsea role.

With only five days until the transfer market closes for Premier League clubs, the Chelsea manager hopes to convince Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard to do the same. "I think he has real potential to play with us and improve with us".

Chelsea have lost each of their last two games against Manchester City - they haven't lost three in succession against them since September 2010. I think he will stay.

While the Community Shield may be dismissed by some as little more than a glamorised pre-season friendly, Sarri is not adopting that attitude before Sunday's fixture.

"The way he plays, I think will be flawless for English football".

And City have asked for a work permit for the 20-year-old.

Sarri has only been in his new position since July 14 and will still be fine-tuning his approach and looking at players who could make an impact.

The approach known as "Sarri-ball" will grace Stamford Bridge this season as the Blues move away from a mainly defensive outlook.

The Brazil-born Italian had been tipped to become the long-term successor to Fernandinho for the Premier League champions.

"We will see, if at the end we decide to bring in another in it will be because he's a special player for the future not just to add one more players for the number", he told a news conference. It was a very positive conversation so I'm very happy about it.

"It depends on him and us".
