Shelley Meyer is a registered nurse and instructor of Clinical Practice at the Ohio State University College of Nursing.

Meyer was placed on paid administrative leave on Wednesday.

Meyer ended up as the Ohio State coach because of a previous football scandal.

Courtney Smith alleged Wednesday that she told Meyer's wife, Shelley, about the abuse in text messages and phone conversations in 2015 and that Shelley Meyer indicated she would tell the head coach.

The Buckeyes fired wide receivers coach Zach Smith last week after he was served with a civil protection order over a string of domestic assaults against his ex-wife, Courtney Smith, between 2009 and 2015.

Meyer said in a statement that he and athletic director Gene Smith agreed that him going on leave was best for the investigation. The case was dropped by police when the woman chose not to pursue charges, but Hyde was suspended three games by Ohio State.

Although there are shades of gray in every situation with such hard subject matter, this much seems clear: Either Meyer was lying last week when he denied his knowledge of the allegations against Smith, or he's created a culture around his program where team employees and even his own wife are unwilling to share such important information with him.

Add it all up, however, and Meyer's future in Columbus is more than murky.

Muschamp was asked Thursday about issues of domestic violence that can crop up around a football program.

If the allegations against Meyer are true, the only option for Ohio State is to terminate his contract. Charges were never filed.

Meyer told reporters last week that he didn't know anything about the 2015 incident.

Zach Smith was charged in May with misdemeanor criminal trespass. "I don't know who creates a story like that".
