  • UK Government preparing for Anti-Trump protests as “if London was burning down

It will be a working visit, which will see him have meetings with the Prime Minister, British business leaders and the Queen.

It is not simply the protesters, who are expected to dog Trump throughout his visit, including his weekend in Scotland, but his fraught relationship with political leaders accustomed to harmonious exchanges with USA leaders, a tradition of unity that goes back at least to the vital World War II partnership of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill.

The protests-which will include a 20-foot-tall angry Trump baby blimp flying over London-are expected to be so large that White House officials are reportedly concerned that the crowd-obsessed Trump could lash out at his British hosts.

In a statement ahead of Trump's arrival, she said the visit would focus on trade and strengthening defense and security ties, saying there was no stronger alliance than Britain's "special relationship with the U.S".

Publican Damien Smyth is an unabashed Trump fan and came up with the idea over a few late-night drinks with a friend.

Trump then even went as far as hitting out at Theresa May after she criticised him for the retweets.

He will be spending a lot of time in central London, using that as a base.

Trump, who comes to Britain after an acrimonious North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels, is on a "working visit" rather than a full state occasion.

Tens of thousands of people are expected to protest against Trump's visit in central London on Friday, citing his alleged Islamophobia, controversial policies and "incendiary rhetoric" towards people with disabilities and the LGBTQ community.

The spokesperson said that the prime minister was "looking forward to making sure the president has a chance to see and experience the United Kingdom beyond London and the south-east".

Mr Smyth said he hoped the protests, and specifically the Trump baby blimp, do not upset the American public.

"Under Theresa May, the U.K.is a key Trump ally, so it's important that he can't waltz in without significant opposition", Lund-Harket concluded.

"I would be happy to see Hillary Clinton if she was president visit the UK".

In the morning he will visit a defence site with May to watch a demonstration of the UK's military capabilities and "integrated USA military training" before the pair travel to Chequers - the prime minister's country residence in Buckinghamshire - for bilateral talks.

Nick Hurd, Britain's Policing Minister, told parliament police expected more than 100 protests across the country, including two large demonstrations in London on Friday, and there were robust and proportionate plans in place.

"I said "If the President is coming to town I'll call it the Trump Arms", he said. After the visit, Trump will decamp to Finland for a one-on-one with Russian President Vladimir Putin on July 16.

Trump is expected to arrive after a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Belgium and will meet with Prime Minister Theresa May, meet Queen Elizabeth at Windsor Castle, and will attend a black-tie dinner at the home of former World War Two leader Winston Churchill.
