Rockets reportedly 'determined' to sign Carmelo Anthony

  • Rockets Re-sign Chris Paul

"Oklahoma City needs Anthony's permission to waive his no-trade clause, which he has done to facilitate his exit, league sources said".

According to updated odds posted Tuesday by MyBookie (via OddsShark), the Rockets are +120 (bet $100 to win $120) favorites to sign Anthony.

Anthony opted into his $27.9 million contract for the 2018-19 season with the Thunder, but he's unlikely to stay due to the fact his scaled-back role with the team right now isn't what he wants.

The moves add to uncertainty for the Rockets around Swiss free agent center Clint Capela, who has not agreed to a new deal.

While it was unclear just how serious the Heat were about their interest in Anthony following the initial report, signs are pointing to the fact that they are very serious indeed. Wade also remains a possibility for that exception if he chooses to play.

The Rockets are hoping to land Carmelo Anthony. ESPN's Dave McMenamin reported Paul and head coach Mike D'Antoni talked with Anthony's camp over the weekend. He averaged 12.1 points and 22.7 minutes during his 41 games with the Rockets. Anthony is now in the twilight of his career, barely shooting 40 percent from the field with the Thunder previous year and averaging a career low in points while putting in his usual effort, or lack thereof, on defense.

Worryingly, his presence on the court saw the Thunder's team plus/minus rating slide to negative 14.3 during the playoffs.

Anthony is a natural small forward but at this stage of his career would be vulnerable defensively against some small forwards, though James Johnson could pick up some of those assignments if Anthony were to be paired with Whiteside and Johnson at times.
