In each of the jumps, all dedicated to a different feat attempted by the daredevil, Pastrana made history by landing each of them successfully.

Travis Pastrana is no stranger to death-defying stunts, and on Sunday he did the legacy of Evel Knievel proud with three impressive jumps in Las Vegas, including landing one of Knievel's most infamous failures.

First, Pastrana stared down a ramp sitting in front of 52 crushed cars.

The 34-year-old then beat Knievel's jump over 14 Greyhound buses, which the late stunt icon accomplished in 1975 at Ohio's Kings Island amusement park, by flying over 16 buses.

Finally, in the night's main event, Pastrana recreated Knievel's 1965 attempt to jump over the fountain at Caesar's Palace. The end result of Knievel's most famous crash was a broken hip, ankle, wrist and both hands, which will happen when you hit the ground at 90 miles per hour.

The event took place in Las Vegas Sunday and was produced and aired live by The History Channel.

Pastrana, who runs the stunt-based TV show Nitro Circus, said: "It's just such an honour to live a day in Evel's footsteps and, literally, his boots".

Pastrana idolized Knievel growing up, and paid tribute to him by wearing his trademark American-flag themed jumpsuit and using a similar motorcycle to the one he originally tried the jump with. He crushed his pelvis and fractured several other bones.

Prior to making the final jump, Pastrana told The History Channel, which televised the three-hour event live, "This has been absolutely fantastic".

Pastrana was proud to honor Knievel's legacy. To be here in Las Vegas, so much of my history is here. "I'm not done yet, but this was definitely the coolest thing I've ever been able to do". If you thought the result of the bus jump was bad, brace yourself. He also attempted and completed three of the famous daredevil's most iconic jumps. The other two jumps I had enough time to hit my marks exactly flawless.

Even with just a 200-foot run-off area, Pastrana made the final and most hard jump (a record length of 149 feet) look easy, even performing a NASCAR-style two-wheeled burnout in celebration.
