While the names of those rescued have not been released, six of the boys are students at the Maesaiprasitsart School and classmates say they've been closely monitoring the global mission to save them.

It's unclear whether Thai officials will opt to use Musk's submarine to rescue the four remaining boys and their soccer coach.

"All the plans must not have any holes in them", he said, noting that "hundreds of people have vetted this" and "there will always be margins for error".

Candle-light vigils have been held in Thailand and parts of Asia, as the world watches on to find out the fate of the four remaining boys and their coach.

He was taken by helicopter and then ambulance to the hospital in Chiang Rai were the first four boys, who were rescued on Sunday, are now being held in quarantine as they undergo tests.

It is unclear whether parents have been informed which of the children have been rescued so far.

An Australian doctor's assessment of the 12 boys trapped in a cave in northern Thailand with their coach appears to have persuaded rescuers to change their initial strategy and to bring the weakest boys out first.

Sunday's mission involved 13 foreign divers and five Thai navy SEALs.

Authorities have said extracting the entire team from the cave could take up to four days, but two straight days of success raised hopes that it could be done faster.

The divers took food and supplies to the group to build up their strength, but the arrival of monsoon rains made it essential to immediately extract them. "Hooyah", the Thai Navy SEALS wrote on their Facebook page Monday, referring to the boys' soccer team, the Wild Boars.

Last night, emerging from the cave complex, some of the boys were carried to a fleet of helicopters amid frenzied cheering from onlookers.

After the location of the young soccer team and their coach was discovered earlier this month, Musk shared ideas for the rescue mission on Twitter, later revealing that his engineers would assist with the rescue. "With our informal assessment, we found that most of the boys are in green condition", Osatanakorn told reporters.

"If Phra Pirun helps us, we might be able to do it very quickly", Narongsak said, again invoking the god of rain, who is widely revered in Thailand.

Giving an update on the four boys pulled from the cave Sunday, Narongsak said, "This morning, they said they were hungry and wanted to eat khao pad grapao" - a popular Thai rice dish of meat stir-fried with basil and chili peppers. "The boys' strength, the plan - today we are ready like before".

The death Friday of a former Thai navy SEAL underscored the risks. He had placed oxygen tanks along the route but didn't have enough air to get back to safety.
