Mercedes' deliberate crash suggestion "silly" - Vettel

A awful start, and a good ten laps of grouchy radio messages complaining about his vehicle, but after that an excellent recovery drive.

Raikkonen, who accepted full responsibility for the contact, was handed a 10-second time penalty and went on to classify third, while Hamilton recovered from the rear of the pack to take second, behind victor Vettel.

The incident at Turn 3, which saw Raikkonen collide with the Briton sending him into a spin which dropped him to last, follows a similar clash in France in which Vettel hit Valtteri Bottas at the first corner.

Hamilton dropped down to last place but executed a superb recovery drive to second, finishing behind race victor and title rival Vettel.

'The Safety Car spiced it up, it was a nice battle with Valtteri!

Lap 12 - Hamilton is already sixth, as Ferrari's Vettel keeps hold of his lead so far.

Vettel and Raikkonen pitted but Mercedes kept their drivers out, assuring Hamilton that he was "the fastest guy by miles" with everything to play for on tires that would last the distance.

"The situation is hard to judge", said Vettel , "because we haven't seen much today and mostly collected data, and also because time is limited between the two sessions". This morning he had a lot of treatment and to be honest, before the race I was really very concerned about him but today he fought like a lion. "I will not give up, believe me, I will not give up".

In both cases, the penalty did not seem sufficient to satisfy Mercedes, or their drivers, after their races were wrecked by rivals' mistakes.

Asked to elaborate on his "interesting tactics" comment, Hamilton said: "All I'd say is it's now two races one of the Ferraris has taken out one of the Mercedes".

"That's how it goes sometimes".

Kimi Raikkonen of Ferrari finished third, followed by Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas, while Austrian GP victor Max Verstappen was fifth and his Red Bull teammate Daniel Ricciardo sixth.

He fell to 16th but recovered to second, ahead of Raikkonen who completed the podium.

The Finn got a ten-second penalty for his troubles, which was roundly applauded by the rather partisan Silverstone crowd. An early pit stop on the cards?
