It was a stark contrast from eight years ago, when a poorly conceived TV special to announce his departure from Cleveland backfired and damaged James' image.

It's entirely freakish, but it really does go to show what an enormous pull James has and just how huge a moment it would be should he decide to take his talents to the Lakers.

"Welcome to the family ↕KingJames", Bryant said on Twitter.

Keep in mind this is simply just an opinion on Bonsignore's end, but it is a valid point since James being in Los Angeles at the moment is quite the coincidence.

There's little doubt James has some quality years ahead of him.

If he had the "Big 3" when he moved to Miami in 2010 and a pair of All-Stars when he returned to Cleveland in 2014, James isn't joining a loaded squad in LA - at least not yet.

After the news broke, James took to Instagram to deliver a farewell message to Cleveland.

"Thank you Northeast Ohio for an incredible four seasons", James wrote. "This will always be home".

Klang said it would be wrong to forget about what LeBron did in his four years in Cleveland. But if the Lakers become a legitimate threat to sign Cousins, it'll be interesting to see if the Pelicans are pressured to offer him a longer-term deal. For what it's worth, some executives believe LeBron's indecision is all theater, and he has already decided on the Lakers as his new team.

"Cleveland has a $5.3 million exception to the salary cap, and can go over the cap to re-sign restricted free agent Rodney Hood", Vardon writes in his recent article.

Between those three, the Cavaliers won't have the best three-man unit in the East but they'll be a competitive one that will help the Cavs be a.500 team next season. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because no one authorized that detail be released publicly.

And all those clubs - Golden State, Oklahoma City, Houston, the Lakers, even Denver by locking up Nikola Jokic for $150 million and Will Barton for $54 million - could definitively say they were thrilled.
