Los Angeles Lakers under pressure to pull off Kawhi Leonard trade

The San Antonio Spurs are now "ready" to trade Kawhi Leonard, according to a new piece of intel from the New York Times' Marc Stein.

On the flip side, the Celtics are rumored to be dipping their toe into the water on trade talks for Leonard. He wants to be traded, but only to the Los Angeles Lakers or Los Angeles Clippers.

According to ESPN, the Cavs have inquired about Leonard, who has requested a trade from the Spurs, but likely don't possess enough assets to pull off such deal.

Despite only playing nine games for the San Antonio Spurs this past season season, general manager R.C. Buford is sure to want a lot in return for his star player.

Leonard has made this situation nearly impossible for the Spurs.

Not many Eastern Conference teams besides the Celtics have expressed interest in acquiring Leonard. The Lakers presumably believe that securing Leonard will entice LeBron James and/or Paul George to come on board as well.

Danny Ainge has made several terrific moves over the last few offseasons, but the Boston Celtics might not be able to land Kawhi Leonard.

Bringing in one of the best two-way players in the league to feature alongside Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid would give the team a formidable big three.

He also suggested that he should not be judged until after next summer, leaving some uncertainty about this year's free agent class.

If Leonard is the piece that convinces George or James to sign on then having that duo to build around may be all that matter to Los Angeles. "He helped us coach him to being a two-way-player, that elusive two-way player", Brown told SI in 2017. The Nets should not take the chance of possibly trading away their bright future for Leonard.

Now, the Nets should pursue Leonard in 2019. But there have been a few National Basketball Association rumors and predictions hinting at possible new destinations for the New Orleans Pelicans big man, and even with his recent ACL injury in mind, a number of teams appear to be interested in acquiring his services.

But before Sixers fans start dreaming, this is a long way from happening and the franchise would have to make an offer first.
