Banned former Federation Internationale de Football Association president Sepp Blatter will fly to Moscow on Tuesday, his spokesman told Reuters. The 82-year-old Swiss is banned from official football duty until October 2021 for financial misconduct during his 17-year rule.

"Sepp Blatter, despite now being banned from football, will attend Portugal v Morocco in Moscow tomorrow, his spokesman tells me".

"Then the next day (Thursday) I will travel to see Costa Rica beat your country", Blatter joked to a Brazilian reporter.

The UK had a failed bid to host the World Cup in 2018, which is now taking place in Russian Federation, so perhaps adding Ireland into the mix is the missing ingredient.

That spirit of global togetherness is on display in pubs and city squares all over the world during the 2018 FIFA World Cup, a tournament that brings together the finest footballers on the planet.

Speaking in an interview with Russian news channel RT, Blatter said he had advocated for Russia to be chosen as the World Cup host in 2010. He was elected FIFA president on the eve of the 1998 World Cup in France, and headed football's world governing body for four more tournaments through 2014. Using allegations from that case, FIFA's ethics committee opened its own inquiry and banned him for eight years.

Blatter, who was suspended in 2015, also said he felt "abandoned" by Federation Internationale de Football Association and that he should have stepped aside earlier.

"This is what I introduced in 2011", Blatter said.
