Rumor: Spurs won’t trade Kawhi Leonard to Western Conference team

  • New York Knicks: Kawhi Leonard wants to leave San Antonio, wont join Knicks

This would also allow them to confirm that this is what Leonard truly wants (and not just the people in his inner circle).

Uneasy feelings surrounding the Spurs' handling of Leonard's quad injury have compelled San Antonio's franchise player to request a trade to Los Angeles, preferably the Lakers.

Still two weeks out from the start of free agency, the recent news surrounding Kawhi Leonard has already sent the National Basketball Association world into a tailspin. According to Carr, he may have already found the answer.

But there is no guarantee Leonard even forces his his way out of San Antonio, let alone to the Lakers, at any point between now and the trade deadline next season. But what makes them special is that they've ignored the noise for 21 years!

When the news came out pertaining to Leonard, most people predicted that three teams make sense for the multiple All-Star to go to. Just ask Dan Gilbert and Cleveland's front office if Isaiah Thomas was really the best fit for the Cavs, or Vlade Divac if signing George Hill or Vince Carter really adhered to his team's timeline or best interests.

Money talks, however, in this case, it seems to not matter much to Leonard.

The Kawhi Leonard-San Antonio Spurs drama is now at an all-time high, and if you were to say a year or so ago that the quiet and reserved Kawhi Leonard would be at odds with one of the best run organizations in basketball, everyone would have called you insane. In a ideal storm of free agency drama, the Kawhi Leonard and LeBron James superteam rumors have begun.

Why not: Salary would eventually become an issue, as it'd be rather hard to pay all four All-Stars max, or near-max, salary when Irving and Leonard become free agents next year.

This summer, it's expected a host of players across the league are likely to be on the move as teams explore avenues to close the gap on the now back-to-back champion Golden State Warriors. But he does not have a no-trade clause in his current contract, so the Spurs could trade him anywhere.
