Twin Cities Friday heat warning rises to 'excessive'

  • Strong Severe Storms Sunday

All of the sunshine, heat, and humidity will cause some places to feel near 100 degrees.

The heat warning will be in effect until Monday, when temperatures are expected to reach a high of 94 degrees, according to the weather service.

"The handsome weather for the past several days was courtesy of a strong Canadian high pressure system pumping in very dry air", Ritter said.

Monday will likely be the warmest day on the 7-day forecast as we're projecting at or above record-breaking heat.

Looking ahead into Father's Day, a tropical wave will continue drifting westward over the southern Gulf of Mexico.

"We will very, very slowly tonight cool off into the 80s", meteorologist Ben Deubelbeiss said.

Our weather pattern will remain active heading into the upcoming week, with the chance of showers each and every day through Saturday.

Even sundown won't offer much relief - the heat index will hover at or above 80 degrees into the overnight hours. The weather pattern favors hot, humid days with a daily dose of scattered thunderstorms; those storms look most numerous toward the end of next week (Thursday and Friday). Highs in the low to mid 90s. A slight breeze might help break up the heat a bit, but the NWS is warning the high temperatures could be risky to children and the elderly.

SUNDAY | Leftover showers and storms, otherwise partly sunny.

High pressure will be rebuilding into next week and rain chances will be going down.

While a couple storms could produce gusty winds and small hail, organized severe weather is not expected.
