There are a lot of iOS 12 features that Apple didn't talk about on stage yesterday but are noteworthy. The beta version of iOS 12 for iPads appears to contain references to FaceID, the tech that the company first launched with the iPhone X to replace the old fingerprint-based touchID. The Health Records API will now bridge the gap between users and medical app developers. It's also letting iPhone users create their own personal animoji avatars called "Memoji", similar to Snap's Bitmoji or Nintendo's Mii.

USDZ works on all Apple devices, and Adobe will provide native USDZ support in its Creative Cloud suite.

"For iOS 12, we're doubling down on performance", Federighi said.

Tapping into Apple's work in augmented reality, the new Measure app allows user to measure real-world objects, like boxes, furniture, pictures, and more, by simply highlighting a start point through the device's viewfinder and then dragging to an end point, with single line or multi-line 3D objects capable of being measured. New characters incoming include a ghost, koala, tiger and T-rex. All Animoji will also be able to detect if you're sticking out your tongue and mimic the action. The latter is becoming especially important as Apple leans more heavily on services - which require more ongoing collaboration than a gadget does - to make its money. Users will be able to customize their appearance down to freckles, skin tone and accessories. Options include hair type, skin color, outfit choices, and accessories.

In an announcement that must have Houseparty a little nervous, iOS 12 will have updated Facetime that allows group video calls. Also of note is that FaceTime is gaining support for group chats that'll support up to 32 participants at once. Active users in the call will receive a larger window, while those who are inactive will see their window shrink.

Apple today unveiled new features coming in iOS 12 that are meant to protect its users' digital wellbeing. Upon activation, it will hide notifications until morning.

Current Apple CEO Tim Cook has returned to this theme in recent months as Facebook has come under fire for its collection of a huge amount of user data and its failure to protect that data from abuse by third parties - most notably Cambridge Analytica.

Apple has unveiled new features to cure you of your iPhone addiction as part of its latest iOS 12 update.

Facebook recently said it will let you delete information the company gathers from your activity on other websites and apps. Apps can now be programed to extend their functionality into Siri so that you can issue voice commands related to them.

According to The New York Times , Facebook user data about relationship status, religion, political learning, etc was shared between the social network and over 60 smartphone manufacturers. In the same vein, Apple is bringing more of its iOS apps to the mac. Also, Voice memos will now be available on iPad with this update. Expect some new AR demos, too. This makes it very easy to see how much time you are spending in certain apps and you can also set limits which notify you when you hit a set usage time. The app uses a device's camera to virtually read the width, height, and length of an object.
