Apple is bringing iOS apps to the Mac - sort of

  • macOS 10.14 getting dark mode, Apple News, and possibly cross-device apps

So, for example, if you have a image stack then when you drop it onto the desktop it will get swept up into it - click on the stack and the files launch back on the desktop for perusal.

Now Mac users can toggle between two color schemes for their desktop displays.

The new version of macOS brings system-wide dark mode which not only turns the user interface dark but also switches the wallpaper and content of windows. The new Dark Mode will be available in all built-in apps like Mail, Messages, Maps, Calendar and Photos while users can toggle between a light and dark desktop. The feature, which will make it easy to port apps with minimal changes to code, will be made available to developers next year.

In so many words, dynamic desktop mode is an option in MacOS Mojave to have your desktop evolve with the hours of the day.

Desktop stacks is Apple's new effort to help keep the macOS desktop clean for users. You can set a timer for when you want a capture to take place, customize the default location for saved files along with a number of other fine-tuning options.

There were a lot of rumours about a Dark Mode which Apple confirmed instantly after announcing Mojave.

The Finder application has also received a major update in macOS Mojave. There is now a new view called Gallery view, which puts a large preview of the files including photos, PDFs, presentations and slides. The preview pane shows all of a file's metadata.

Quick actions lets users add a password to a document or PDF right from Finder.

Unfortunately, Federighi continues to downplay the concept of a touchscreen Mac with the natural ability to handle an iOS app's original UI.

There were also rumors of Apple bringing a News app onto macOS and it looks like those rumors were true.

In other developments, Voice Memos, Stocks, Home, News, and other popular iOS apps are also coming to macOS.

The App Store is getting a much-needed overhaul (as we previously reported) and takes its design cues from the iOS version (which was redesigned in iOS 11). This is what you need to know about the new macOS update. In 2018, it has introduced dedicated topic buttons including Work, Play, Create, Discover and Develop. The update also adds video previews of Mac apps for the first time and also announced Microsoft Office 365 Suite and Adobe Lightroom in the App store. On a positive note, it should be largely automated, but less positively, Apple's still saying no to touchscreen Macs. Users will fins Google News, Voice Memos and Home on their Macs come fall. You'll also be able to access tips and tutorials regarding both new and existing apps to assure you get the most out of what you're using.
