Kuwait presented its draft two weeks ago, initially calling for an global protection mission for the Palestinians, following riots on the Israeli-Gaza border in which Israeli troops killed dozens of protesters.

Israeli soldiers on Friday killed one Palestinian and injured at least a hundred others protesting in Gaza along the fence that separates the territory from Israel, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

The Israeli military confirmed in a statement it had carried out the air strikes, adding that "the Hamas terror organization is exclusively responsible for all events that transpire in the Gaza Strip and emanate from it".

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said after the strikes that Israel's military had delivered the "harshest blow" in years to Gaza militants.

Speaking to RT, Al-Najar's mother claimed that her daughter was deliberately targeted by Israeli sniper fire.

The IDF said the events are a "continuation of Hamas's repeated attempts to turn the area next to the security fence into a violent zone" and conduct terror attacks.

Palestinian officials said before being killed, Najjar had given an interview during which she said she took pride in the aid she was providing to wounded Gazans.

There were no immediate reports of casualties in Gaza.

The Israeli offensive comes days after the two sides agreed to a ceasefire to end what has been described as the worst hostilities between the Israelis and Palestinians since 2014. Dozens of Palestinians were killed by Israeli security forces, who argue that they were merely trying to defend the border. Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that Palestinians had fired the rockets in response to the killing of 21-year-old Razzan Najjar. "She was the first female paramedic in the field", Sabreen Najar said.

The Gaza clashes reached their peak on May 14, the eve of the 70th anniversary of the Nakba Day (the Day of Catastrophe), which coincided this year with the USA embassy relocation from Tel Aviv to occupied Jerusalem al-Quds.

The U.N. Middle East peace envoy Nickolay Mladenov said on Twitter: "Medical workers are #NotATarget!".

The UN Security Council has been paralysed in the face of the recent violence against protesters in Gaza, despite the fact that a number of emergency meetings have been held.

The Israeli military stated in a press release on Sunday that the Hamas movement is responsible for all acts of aggression that originated from Gaza, which is controlled by it.

Low-level demonstrations have continued since.

The body of Razan al-Najjar, wrapped in a Palestinian flag, was carried through the streets by protesters calling for revenge.

Since 2015, Palestinians have killed over 50 Israelis, two visiting Americans and a British tourist in stabbings, shootings and car-ramming attacks.
