Initially expected to transition to a tropical storm or hurricane, Alberto formed as a subtropical storm over the western Caribbean on May 25 and made landfall near Panama City, Florida, on May 28 with sustained winds of 45 miles per hour, KCC said.
Although Subtropical Storm Alberto has moved well away from the Big Bend and south Georgia, the outermost rain bands continue to bring rain and breezy winds to the area through the evening.
"However, heavy rainfall from Alberto will spread into northern Georgia, the western Carolinas, and Tennessee on Tuesday, increasing the threat of flash flooding in those areas", the National Weather Service said. "So, we have to get the tourists back". Alberto formed several days ahead of the June 1 official start of the six-month Atlantic hurricane season.
