"He's an idiot", Baldwin said of Trump. It is what it is. It's not very American like, actually, to me. It's not what this country was founded on. "It's kind of ironic to me that president of the United States is contradicting what our country is really built on".
The movement to protest police brutality and racial injustice by kneeling during the national anthem first started in 2016 with former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

There is still a clear divide that the league has struggled to bridge between itself and its players over the last couple of years.

"I never want to put restrictions on the speech of our players", he said. "I think the people pushed it forward", he said.
I would be more OK with [the decision] if they had consulted with the players. I understand it, though. "I don't think it will be an issue at all". But if there is an incident, all eyes will be on the players coming out of the tunnel - or on the players defying the new policy by taking a knee on the sideline.
Many players continued to protest during the national anthem throughout the season, and fan boycotts and more criticism by Trump followed. Yeah, they can still pout in the locker room till their heart's content.
"It is a divisive issue, and it can become a problem internally if not approached right", Armstead said. "I just think that when you love something and you care about it, you want to work to get it right".
Bears coach Matt Nagy said after practice Wednesday that the team will discuss the issue as a group at some point in the future. I'm someone who's always looked at the anthem as a declaration of ideals, including the right to peaceful protest.
