At least seven blasts were heard near the Shahr-e Naw police station, with gunfire happening sporadically for about an hour.

At least three suicide bombers attacked two police stations in the Afghan capital Kabul, killing two militiamen, while six people were injured.

Police officials said a suicide bomber detonated his explosives in a bid to enable four other assailants in a motor vehicle to enter the facility.

"A number of gunmen at both sites under attack are engaged with the security forces", Danish said.

At least six injured were shifted to hospital by rescue teams after the attacks.

The Taliban issued a statement saying they control the district and claiming to have killed 10 security forces.

Police said one blast was near a police station in the centre of the city and casualties were feared.

According to police spokesman Hashmat Stanikzai, two militants equipped with arms and suicide vests targeted a police station in Police District 13 in Dashti Barchi locality at 11:30 am local time.

An Afghan official says attacks on two police stations in the capital killed five people and wounded another 16.

But despite repeated government pledges to tighten security, authorities have appeared powerless to stop the periodic attacks that have killed and wounded hundreds of people and undermined confidence in the authorities.

After an easing of violence in Kabul in February and March, terrorists have stepped up attacks in the city in recent weeks.
