  • European Leagues oppose revamped FIFA Club World Cup and Nations League

The body representing Europe's top football leagues says it is in "firm opposition" to FIFA President Gianni Infantino's plans for two new tournaments.

In publicly backing the hosting bid for the first time last week, Trump also questioned why the US should support other countries who might lobby against it.

Federation Internationale de Football Association president Gianni Infantino has put forward plans for a revamped version of the Club World Cup and a new global Nations League competition.

Members of soccer's worldwide governing body, FIFA's Congress, will meet in Moscow on June 13 to select the host. The president finished by saying that they will be watching very closely and that they will appreciate any help they can give them in their bid.

But Russian soccer has also made headlines for a string of racist incidents, including at Russia's friendly against France in March while the country has pledged to combat discriminatory behaviour at sporting events.

The update will enable players on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch to download a full Russian Federation 2018 experience, including authentic teams, as well as all 12 stadiums from the tournament and the official match ball and World Cup trophy. "We are being respected again", he said.

"It would be a shame if countries that we always support were to lobby against the USA bid".

"We feel we're going to get strong support across Europe regardless of the geopolitics", Carlos Cordeiro said on Thursday at a campaign event in Denmark that was also attended by rival bidder Morocco.

Trump's comments however risk incurring the wrath of FIFA, which has strict guidelines forbidding government intervention in football matters.

However, Cordeiro said the bid leaders' meeting on Wednesday with 12 South-east Asian voters in Indonesia suggested Trump was not a negative factor.

It also wants to introduce a new global Nations League based on the format of Uefa's Nations League, which commences after the World Cup later this year.
