Former assistant US attorney Andrew McCarthy said Friday that the Justice Department must require Special Counsel Robert Mueller to show evidence of a crime before an interview with President Trump.

Rick Gates, former deputy campaign manager for Donald Trump, has already pleaded guilty. "Nobody wants to speak more than me. because we've done nothing wrong", Trump told reporters at the White House."But I have to find a way to be treated fairly".

White House officials, sensing growing pressure from Mueller's investigation, see Flood as someone to play hard ball with Mueller over interview and document requests, particularly those in which the president could invoke executive privilege.

Even some of President Donald Trump's allies believe his legal defense is shaky against the special counsel investigation.

The Kremlin has denied assertions by USA intelligence agencies that it meddled in the election.

"Emmet Flood will be joining the White House staff to represent the president and the administration against the Russian Federation witch hunt", White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement.

So while Trump may pretend that the questions have absolved him, the very fact that they've leaked may actually be putting him into more hot water.

If Trump is subpoenaed, his legal team will have to negotiate with Mueller to determine when, where and how the interview will take place, or they could try to object to the subpoena or certain parts of it.

"With all due respect, you actually don't know much about me in terms of what I feel and what I don't", she said.

Giuliani said Trump had used retainer fees starting in 2017 to reimburse Cohen for the $130,000 Cohen paid the porn star, Stormy Daniels, in the closing weeks of the November 2016 election.

Rudy Giuliani lashed former FBI Director James Comey as a "sensitive little baby" Thursday after Comey defended the bureau's agents after Giuliani called them "storm troopers", The Washington Post reported.

"If you litigate all of these things, you eventually end up with clear answers to some of those questions, because the courts will be involved", said Keith Whittington, a professor of politics at Princeton University who has written about the presidency and the court.

He said the payment was aimed at stopping "false and extortionist accusations" Daniels made about a sexual encounter with Trump.

"Mr. Cohen, an attorney, received a monthly retainer, not from the campaign and having nothing to do with the campaign, from which he entered into, through reimbursement, a private contract between two parties, known as a non-disclosure agreement, or NDA".

What makes Mueller different from previous special counsels is that his predecessors were given the mission of investigating specific alleged crimes.

The idea of a possible presidential subpoena is in the news again, bringing back a question that's been debated for months. If obstruction or other charges are ultimately levelled against the president, it could possibly lead to his impeachment.

In other words, Trump is tweeting a bunch of weak theories and ideas about obstruction of justice, and may still not really understand why firing Comey got him into so much trouble and why attempting to shut down the investigation now would be so unsafe for him.

Peter Henning, a law professor at Wayne State University, said that while prosecutions for making false statements to the government are common, they are rarely based on an omission on a financial disclosure form. "I would love to", he said.
