Iran has refused to renegotiate the terms of the nuclear deal

Russian Federation has warned of the consequences of a possible USA withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran, saying such a move will deprive the world of one of the key non-proliferation regimes.

Many of America's key allies, especially European leaders, have pleaded with the Trump administration to keep the deal intact.

US President Donald Trump is expected to decide in mid-May whether to leave the 2015 deal and resume economic sanctions against Iran. The recent appointments of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and national security adviser John Bolton - two vociferous Iran hawks who were doggedly opposed to the deal - seem to make it all the more likely that Trump will follow through on his threats to scuttle the deal.

Speaking to the BBC, Guterres said there was a real risk of war if the 2015 agreement was not preserved.

"On 11 occasions since, the United Nations nuclear watchdog has confirmed that Iran has implemented all of its obligations", Zarif, who studied in the USA, says in American-accented English.

Lieberman also told the paper that Israel won't be interfering with Syria's internal affairs, but said that what can not be tolerated is "Iran's attempts to turn Syria into a forward position against Israel".

Everything that the Israeli Prime Minister talked about in his presentation concerned events before the Iran nuclear deal went into effect, Naiman pointed out. Iran may immediately kick-start its nuclear program.

Trump has been a strong critic of the accord, in which Iran agreed to limit its nuclear programme in return for the lifting of sanctions. "The president should stop waiting for Congress or the Europeans to get serious about renegotiating the JCPOA", wrote Bush-era official Jamil Jaffer, using the formal abbreviation for the Iran deal. The two messages add up to one: Israel is not going away.

Technically, Trump must decide by May 12 whether to renew "waivers" suspending some of the USA sanctions on Iran.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Ghasemi described Netanyahu as an "infamous liar who has had nothing to offer except lies and deceits".

Zarif also added that the United States violated existing agreements and intimidated other countries so they are not doing business with Iran.

Beyond generally weakening Iran's military capabilities, hard-liners in particular are concerned that negotiating over the country's missile program will allow for a gradual spillover of Israel's sporadic attacks on Syria, which generally avoid global condemnation.

Israel's F-15 fighter jets carried out strikes a Syrian military base near Hama on Sunday destroying a shipment of anti-aircraft missiles stored by Iran in the facility, NBC news reports.

Imagine being the new State Department envoy seeking a nuclear deal, sitting across from an experienced North Korean diplomat, trying to answer his question: "What is to say you won't do this to us, too, in three years?" While anything can happen inside a White House fueled by chaos, there is no plausible scenario under which the Iran deal survives May 12.
