The two nations will also intensify cooperation in areas such as green technology and smart cities.

"The prime ministers noted that the unique strengths of India and the Nordic countries offer vast opportunities for trade and investment diversification and mutually beneficial collaboration", the Foreign Ministry noted.

"They have huge planning and building work in front of them which they want to do in a climate smart way, and in that we have a very clear area of cooperation", Löfven commented. Mr. Modi also had a roundtable meeting with Swedish CEOs and a call on by the Leader of Opposition. The Summit emphasized the India's strong commitment to innovation and digital initiatives as key to prosperity and sustainable development, with national flagship programmes such as Make in India, Start-up India, Digital India and Clean India. They had a productive exchange of views on bilateral and regional issues. "Proceed with India-Sweden defence seminars in India and Sweden in 2018-19 and explore, together with the ISBLRT, opportunities for investment in Defence Production Corridors in India Encourage industry partners to develop supply chains for small and medium sized enterprises (SME) with major Defence & Aerospace Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs)".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the government has left behind the culture of sloganeering about Garibi Hatao (poverty eradication) and made empowerment a tool.

"This is my first visit to Sweden and a visit by an Indian PM after a gap of almost 30 years, " Mr. Modi tweeted soon after arriving in Stockholm.

According to figures provided by the Indian External Affairs Ministry, India's trade with the Nordic countries totaled around $5.3 billion in 2016-17, with cumulative foreign direct investment in India at $2.5 billion. "In security cooperation, especially in cyber security cooperation, we have made a decision to strengthen our cooperation".

PM Narendra Modi arrived in London on the second leg of his 3-nation tour.

Indian officials involved in organising the four-day prime ministerial visit to the United Kingdom have said that protests and demonstrations are "part and parcel of any democratic society" and there are no plans to curtail them in any way.

On his part, Lofven lauded India as a "global power" and said the two countries are a "perfect match".

The Indian prime minister is unlikely to meet there with Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi due to the generally hostile relations between Pakistan and India.

Ahead of the Summit, Modi held separate bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Denmark, Iceland, Norway and Finland.
