Here's Where SpaceX Will Build Its Most Powerful Rocket Yet

SpaceX will try to return upper stage of the rocket back with the orbital velocity with the help of giant balloons. Most of the time, the rockets utilize various methods of making a landing that does not destroy them in the process.

SpaceX has had success recapturing the first stages of its Falcon rockets, refurbishing them and using them for multiple missions, but it has yet to attempt to land and reuse a second stage. The upper stage is now the only major component of the rocket that the Hawthorne, California-based aerospace company has not tried to reuse in its pursuit of a fully reusable launch vehicle.

NASA has been researching "inflatable entry systems" in space missions for some time now. So we shouldn't expect any party balloon antics from SpaceX for the TESS launch, but it's something we should keep an eye on for the future.

The funding comes about five months after Musk said the Boring Company would compete to fund, build and operate a "loop" to connect downtown Chicago with O'Hare Airport. "Can [definitely] be done, just about minimizing mass".

It will be the Falcon 9 rocket.

'We already do targeted retro burn to a specific point in Pacific [with] no islands or ships, so [the] upper stage doesn't become a dead satellite, ' Musk wrote in a tweet. "Need to retarget closer to shore & position catcher ship like Mr. Steven".

The total cost of one of its Falcon 9 launches is estimated to reach £44 million ($61m), while each of its larger Falcon Heavy flights costs £65 million ($90m).

Ultimately, SpaceX will have around 200,000 square feet of space for working on BFR in the Port, though it won't be limiting itself to that space. SpaceX is there to collect the payloads via its Falcon 9 rockets.

Even Musk, SpaceX's CEO and chief designer, admits it's a pretty wild idea. Musk has called it a "catcher's mitt" in boat form.
