  • Israel: Iran drone intercepted in Feb was Strike Assignment

In a statement released after the conclusion of the Sabbath, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, "A year ago, I declared Israel's full support for President [Donald] Trump's decision to take a stand against the use and spread of chemical weapons".

"The important global message that came from the attack was zero tolerance for the use of non-conventional weapons", Netanyahu said at the start of a cabinet meeting, describing his discussion with May.

U.S., British and French forces hit Syria with air strikes overnight in response to an alleged poison gas attack that killed dozens of people last week. "This morning, the US, Britain, and France proved that their commitment to the fight against chemical weapons is not limited to statements only", he added.

Netanyahu warned Syrian President Bashar al-Assad that his "ceaseless efforts to acquire and use weapons of mass destruction. put Syria in danger".

"The United States and its allies have no proof and, without even waiting for the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons to take a position, have carried out this military attack", said the foreign ministry in a statement.

Also on Sunday, two Israeli ministers said their country would continue to act to prevent Iran from establishing itself militarily in Syria.

A US embassy spokeswoman confirmed to Reuters that Israel had been notified before the strikes, but she provided no further details. Iran has been regarded by Israel as its arch enemy in the region.

Prime Minister Netanyahu, in addition to several other high-ranking Israeli officials, expressed approval of the allied strike on Syrian targets following the most recent chemical attack in the war torn nation.

Israel said on Friday that an Iranian drone shot down in February by its air force had been fitted with explosives intended.

Earlier in the day, the United States, the United Kingdom and France launched a massive missile strike at targets in Syria in response to an alleged chemical incident in Douma in Eastern Ghouta, which has already been blamed on Damascus despite the fact that the OPCW probe is only due to start today.
